There are a lot of commercial steam cleaners on the market. Using an industrial steam cleaner might be your best bet for keeping your carpets and upholstery clean whether you need to steam clean on a large scale or have a particularly difficult domestic job.
A commercial grade steam cleaner is meant to log a lot of miles. It is most commonly found in an office complex, hotel, or other building with large public spaces that need to be maintained. Because the quantity of steam cleaning that it needs to do is so much greater than in a person’s individual home these commercial steam cleaners are necessarily tougher than the domestic variety.
If you want to purchase one for your home, you should look for cheaper and lighter domestic grade steam cleaner. However, if you have a big job you can often rent an industrial steam cleaner from your local home improvement store.
Features of Commercial Steam Cleaners
On a steam cleaner you should find a double boiler, a heating unit, and way for the steam to reach your upholstery. These are the basic elements you need in a steam cleaner. Everything else is just extra bells and whistles.
A double boiler system is important because you want to put tap water in a cool tank and then let that water into a superheated tank. It would not only be dangerous for you to open a hot tank and pour in cool water, but it could also crack the tank and damage the cleaner.
For a steam cleaner to do its job, you need to make sure that I can heat water to at least 320 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows the water to flash to steam. You use less water and are able to get items cleaner faster.
There are many uses for commercial steam cleaners besides just doing carpets. While upholstery, and therefore a vacuum-like attachment are the most common, you can also find nozzles and spray heads that look like pressure washing attachments.

This industrial steam cleaner looks like the cross between a mobile oxygen tank and a shopping cart. The KleenJet Mega 1000CV is not only a commercial steam cleaner but it is also a wet/dry vacuum. It has a continuous four liter refill chamber that connects to the boiler chamber. There is also a detergent container that is connected to the boiler if you wish to add chemicals to your cleaning process. The water will heat to 320 degrees in fifteen minutes if the chamber is cold.
Additionally the KleenJet has a HEPA filter that blocks microbes and other allergens from escaping the vacuum filter regardless of whether you are using it as a vacuum or a steam cleaner. However, because of the rolling nature of the cleaner and its vacuum-like attachments, it is not an appropriate machine to use for cleaning industrial equipment. It is more suited to cleaning carpets and upholstery on a commercial scale.

This cleaner is meant for mainly industrial applications. Unlike the above listed commercial steam cleaner the Super Vapor Six has been designed specifically for industrial cleaning jobs such as welding preparation, restroom cleaning, grout and tile cleaning, and the cleaning of automotive parts. It also has the ability to sanitize equipment.
The Super Vapor Six has three different settings. You have spray out steam, hot water, or hot detergent. There are two external tanks attached to the rolling unit. One holds water to be poured into the refill tank and the other holds whatever kind of liquid cleaning chemical you prefer. The extra external water tank increases the weight of the unit, but also makes filling the refill tank quicker.
This industrial steam cleaner is made of stainless steel. It comes with its own cart and accessory basket. It also has a twelve foot hose attached to a variable spray nozzle. While you can purchase an attachment for carpet cleaning, this unit is meant for harder, industrial applications. Water is heated to 320 degrees at 90 psi using a 1700 watt immersion rod.

This commercial steam cleaner can be used in both a home commercial environment. However, it is powerful enough that you might consider renting, rather than purchasing, if you need it for an occasional cleaning in your home.
The many attachments of the SteriVap make it a very versatile steam cleaner. It comes with a vacuum like hose on which you can attach a wide area brush, a window squeegee, a triangular brush, or a host of variously sized detail brushes. However, the main application is for industrial carpet cleaning.
The SteriVap has a small tank for chemical cleaner injection as well as the standard double boiler feature. It also has a pressure gauge and low water indicator light as safety features. It runs on 1600 watts and heat water up to 311 degrees.
Commercial Steam Cleaners – Not for the Faint of Heart
An industrial steam cleaner should only be used for specialized industrial applications. Even though all models take safety precautions with double boilers and warning lights, the temperature at which the steam comes out is so hot that accidents are likely with an unskilled operator. Don’t buy a commercial steam cleaner for home use and if you need to rent one, do so only after being instructed in its use by the in-store professional.
